What is the interpretation of the first seal? The first seal is the antichrist who will rule the world by bringing a false peace to Israel and the world.
What is the interpretation of the second seal? The second seal is widespread war.
What is the interpretation of the third seal? The third seal is famine and scarcity which always follows war.
What is the interpretation of the fourth seal? The fourth seal is pestilence and death which follows war and starvation.
What is the interpretation of the fifth seal? The fifth seal is the persecution of the saints on the earth.
What is the interpretation of the sixth seal? The sixth seal is great natural catastrophes and disasters?
What is the interpretation of the seventh seal? The seventh seal contains the seven trumpets and are the next part of the tribulation.
Comparison of Matthew 24:5-9 and Rev 6
Two other verses of scripture that need to be seen as
parallel are Matthew 24 and Revelation 6. Matthew 24 is called the Olivet
Discourse, because it was given by Jesus to three of his apostles on the Mount
of Olives as they looked toward the Temple on Mount Zion.
Many teachers and preachers place Matthew 24 in our
present church age and use it as a gauge of
how close we are to the Tribulation, actually it is Jesus' first introduction
to those things which would occur once the church age ends and the last week of
Daniel prophecy, the Tribulation, begins.
Take a moment to read Matthew 24:4-5 and then
Revelation 5:1-14 if you can in two Bibles so you may compare them and look for
similarities.
First Sign First Seal Anti-Christ
In Matthew 24:4-5 Jesus says, And Jesus answered
and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in
my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.
In Revelation 24:2 John reports, And I saw when the
Lamb opened one of the seals, and I heard, as it were the noise of thunder, one
of the four beasts saying, Come and see. And I saw, and behold a white horse:
and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went
forth conquering, and to conquer.
Second Sign Second Seal
Matt 24:6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of
wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but
the end is not yet
Revelation 6:3 And when he had opened the second
seal, I heard the second beast say, Come and see. 4 And there went out another
horse that was red: and power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace
from the earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto
him a great sword.
Third Sign Third Seal and Fourth Seal
Matt 24:7 For nation shall rise against nation, and
kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and
earthquakes, in divers places.
Revelation 6:5 And when he had opened the third
seal, I heard the third beast say, Come and see. And I beheld, and lo a black
horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand. 6 And I heard
a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny,
and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the
wine. 7 And when he had opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth
beast say, Come and see. 8 And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name
that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto
them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger,
and with death, and with the beasts of the earth.
Fourth Sign, Fifth Seal
Matthew 24:8 All these are the beginning of
sorrows. 9 Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you:
and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake.
Rev 6:9 And when he had opened the fifth seal, I
saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and
for the testimony which they held: 10 And they cried with a loud voice, saying,
How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on
them that dwell on the earth? 11 And white robes were given unto every one of
them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season,
until their fellowservants also and their brethren, that should be killed as
they were, should be fulfilled.
Other Signs, Sixth Seal
Matthew 24:7b and earthquakes, in divers places.
Revelation 6:12 And I beheld when he had opened the
sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as
sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood; 13 And the stars of heaven
fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is
shaken of a mighty wind. 14 And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is
rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places.
Notice that all the sign warnings of Jesus and the
vision John saw are in the same order and speak of the same events. The only
exception to the order is the earthquakes in Matt 24:7 which is recorded under
the 6th seal in Rev 24:12. Greater detail is given in Revelation which would be
expected since God gives his revelation according to the principle of
"Progressive Revelation" meaning that he gives as much as those at
any given time can begin to comprehend. Thus John at the end of the 1st century
could see and accept much more than those who sat with Jesus around 30 AD on
the Mount of Olives.
Matthew 24 is the "beginning of sorrows"
it marks the time when the tribulation starts. It is not for the church age but
it is for those believers, especially the Jewish believers who will be present
on earth when anti-christ, the rider on the white horse is revealed.
4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take
heed that no man deceive you. 5 For
many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.
6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of
wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
7 For nation shall rise against nation, and
kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and
earthquakes, in divers places.
8 All these are the beginning of sorrows. 9
Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you:
and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake.

Matthew 24:3 is the key verse to placing this passage.
When will these things be?
What will be the sign of your coming?
And (what will be the sign) of the end of the age?
Who asked these questions? The apostles with Jesus on the Mount of Olives. (This is called the Olivet Discourse.)
What were they in reference to? To the apostles showing off the temple and Jesus prediction that it would be destroyed.
How did Christ answer the questions?
By describing the events of the tribulation which would immediately
proceed his coming back.
